The CI5 is a 5–7.5 HP two-stage, two-cylinder cast-iron air compressor pump rated at 175 PSI. It delivers 18 ACFM at 790 RPM on a 5 HP motor and 24 ACFM at 910 RPM on a 7.5 HP motor. It has an intercooler between stages, disc valves and splash lubrication, and can be driven by an electric motor or a gas engine.
Replacing an existing pump
The CI5 is a common replacement for the Industrial Gold CA1, Saylor Beal 705 and Compressor Source CS1105T. Before you order, check three things on your old pump: the mounting bolt pattern (7.75" x 9" on the CI5), the discharge connection (3/4" NPT) and the flywheel rotation. The CI5 turns counterclockwise when you're facing the flywheel, so a three-phase motor may need two leads swapped to match.
Setting it up
Pair the CI5 with a 5 or 7.5 HP compressor-duty motor and a tank of about 80 gallons. The 16.9" flywheel takes two B-section belts. To reach the rated 790–910 RPM, a 1750 RPM motor needs a pulley of roughly 7-5/8" to 8-3/4" O.D. Our Pulley Size & RPM Ratio Calculator works out the exact size for your motor. Set belt tension so the belts deflect about 1/2" under 10 lb of force midway between the pulley and flywheel.
As a splash-lubricated pump, the CI5 is designed for a 70% duty cycle. Don't run it longer than 45 minutes at a time without a 20-minute rest. Install it indoors with at least 18" of clearance from walls, in an ambient temperature of 30–104°F.
The pump ships with its flywheel, intake air filter, oil sight glass, intercooler and ASME safety valves installed. Oil is not included. Fill it with 2.5 quarts of 30W non-detergent compressor oil, to the halfway mark on the sight glass, before the first start-up. A gallon of our MAG1 ISO-100 compressor oil covers the first fill with some left over for top-ups. Change the oil every 3 months or 500 hours, whichever comes first.
